McMillian’s First Steps Community Development Corporation & Academy has been a trusted educational institution since March 1988, when it first opened its doors serving infants through Pre-Kindergarten students. On August 29, 2004, the Academy received approval to operate as a school through Louisiana’s Nonpublic School Program (Bulletin 741) and under the provisions of Brumfield vs. Dodd.
Today, McMillian’s First Steps is proud to be a 5-Star Quality Rated Center and a comprehensive educational academy serving children from six weeks of age through 5th grade. The Academy currently serves more than 250 students, including participants in the Head Start and Louisiana LA4 Early Childhood Programs.
Our campus features over 14,000 square feet of educational space, a private outdoor playground, and a modern two-story facility designed to provide a safe, engaging, and nurturing learning environment. We specialize in delivering developmentally appropriate educational experiences while implementing individualized learning plans that focus on the growth of the whole child—academically, socially, emotionally, and physically—regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, or background.
Our dedicated team of educators includes highly qualified professionals, with many teachers holding Child Development Associate (CDA) Credentials, Associate Degrees in Education, and Bachelor’s Degrees in related fields. Their commitment to excellence ensures that every child receives a strong educational foundation and personalized support.
