ARRIVAL & DEPARTURE TIME

Students may begin arriving at school starting at 7:15 AM each morning. Regular dismissal begins promptly at 3:30 PM.

Parents and guardians are encouraged to ensure students arrive on time and are picked up promptly each day to help maintain a safe, organized, and structured learning environment.

Consistent attendance and timely arrival support student success, classroom readiness, and minimize disruptions to instructional time.

UNIFORM & DRESS CODE POLICY

At McMillian’s First Steps Academy, the student uniform represents the professionalism, pride, and public image of our school community. Students are expected to arrive each day in complete uniform and maintain a neat, clean, and well-groomed appearance at all times.

Compliance with the uniform policy is required while on campus, during school activities, and while traveling to and from school.

REQUIRED SCHOOL UNIFORM

SHIRTS / BLOUSES

  • Yellow short-sleeve shirt with the McMillian’s logo
  • Shirts must remain tucked in at all times
  • Collars must be worn properly

PANTS / SHORTS / SKIRTS

Boys: Navy pants or shorts worn with a red blazer or sweater
Girls: Plaid skirts, plaid shorts, or plaid pants worn with a red blazer or sweater

BLAZERS & SWEATERS

Red blazers or sweaters are required daily

BELTS

  • Red belts only
  • Belts may be webbed or braided
  • Decorative or oversized buckles are not permitted

SHOES

  • Solid black shoes with black soles and black laces
  • All black tennis shoes are permitted
  • No Crocs, Heelys, Doc Martens, quarter-top, high-top, or slip-on shoes allowed

SOCKS

  • Red socks must be worn daily
  • Socks must be ankle length or higher
  • “No-show” socks are prohibited

TIES

  • Boys: Plaid bow tie
  • Girls: Plaid cross tie

BOOK BAGS

  • Only approved McMillian’s blue book bags are permitted
  • Rolling book bags are not allowed

GROOMING & PERSONAL APPEARANCE

Students are expected to maintain a neat, clean, and professional appearance.

HAIR GUIDELINES

  • Hair must be clean, neatly groomed, and styled appropriately
  • Unnatural hair colors are not permitted
  • Mohawks, fauxhawks, shaved designs, and hair art are prohibited
  • Bangs may not obstruct vision

ACCESSORIES & JEWELRY

  • Boys may not wear earrings
  • Girls may wear one small earring per ear lobe
  • Hoop or dangling earrings are not permitted
  • Bracelets and wristbands are prohibited
  • Hair accessories must match school colors (red, blue, or yellow)

ADDITIONAL DRESS CODE EXPECTATIONS

  • Uniforms must be clean and free of tears, stains, or discoloration
  • Oversized clothing is not permitted
  • Undergarments must not be visible
  • Leggings and jeggings are prohibited
  • Hats and sunglasses may not be worn indoors
  • Perfume, scented lotion, and scented lip gloss are prohibited

DRESS DOWN DAY GUIDELINES

On approved dress-down days, students may wear:

  • Appropriate lace-up or buckle shoes
  • Clothing free from holes, tears, or inappropriate graphics
  • Shorts and skirts that are mid-thigh length or longer

The following are not permitted:

  • Low-cut or revealing clothing
  • See-through garments
  • Hats
  • Jeggings or leggings

ELECTRONIC DEVICE POLICY

To maintain a focused learning environment, electronic devices are restricted during school hours.

CELL PHONES

Cell phones are not permitted during the school day. Students who must carry a phone for safety reasons are required to check the device into the school office or homeroom teacher upon arrival.

PROHIBITED ELECTRONICS

The following items are not allowed on campus or during field trips:

  • CD or MP3 players
  • Digital cameras
  • Video game devices
  • Digital books or similar electronic devices

Violation of the electronic device policy may result in:

  • Confiscation of the device
  • Parent conference
  • Detention
  • Suspension

STUDENT DISCIPLINE

McMillian’s First Steps Academy follows discipline policies designed to maintain a safe, respectful, and productive educational environment.

Students are expected to demonstrate appropriate behavior, respect for others, and responsibility at all times. Repeated behavioral concerns or violations of school policies may result in disciplinary action as determined by school administration.
